What each platform actually prohibits — side by side
Most removal requests fail because they cite the wrong thing. This table is the short version of the rulebook we work from; the platform's current published policy always governs.
| Platform | Grounds that work | Where it is filed | Realistic timing | What stays |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Google Business Profile | Fake engagement · conflict of interest · off-topic · harassment · personal information · impersonation · advertising | Report from the profile, then the appeal route in Business Profile support | Days for clear prohibited content; appeals longer, no published SLA | Negative but genuine accounts of a real visit |
| Trustpilot | Not based on a genuine buying or service experience · about a different company · harmful or discriminatory · promotional · unsubstantiated after verification | Flag from the business account with grounds, plus verification requests | Verification runs to the window Trustpilot gives the reviewer | Documented customers describing a real service failure |
| Yelp | Conflict of interest · not a consumer experience · threats and harassment · second-hand accounts · demonstrably false statements of fact | Report the review with the guideline cited; no solicitation permitted | Moderation queue, no published timeline | Anything Yelp's recommendation software has already filtered |
| Tripadvisor | Not firsthand or recent · hearsay · wrong property · profanity and prejudice · blackmail-linked · commercial motive | Dispute through the Management Centre with booking records | Moderation team review; slower than automated platforms | Genuine guest complaints about service or cleanliness |
| Glassdoor | Identifies individuals · discriminatory or threatening · confidential information · no employment or interview relationship · spam | Report through the employer account, with the specific sentence quoted | Community guidelines review; anonymity strongly protected | Negative opinions about management, pay or culture |
| Facebook, Amazon, G2, Booking.com | Platform-specific: fulfilment handled by the platform, off-topic content, competitor posts, incentivised reviews | Each platform's own seller or business reporting flow | Varies widely; marketplace feedback is often the fastest | Verified purchase reviews describing the product accurately |
Policies change. Platforms revise these rules regularly and rarely announce it loudly. We check the live policy text at the time of each assessment rather than working from last year's version.
How to use this
Three ways this table saves you a rejection
Cite the clause, not the feeling
“This is unfair” is not a ground. “Conflict of interest — the reviewer is a competing business” is.
Match the evidence to the platform
Google accepts pattern evidence about accounts. Trustpilot wants your transaction records. Sending the wrong kind is the most common reason a valid case fails.
Know when to stop
If nothing in the left column fits, the answer is a public response and more genuine reviews — not a report that damages your credibility for the next case.
Not sure which column your review falls into?
That is exactly what the free assessment answers, in writing, per review.
